Because Foreign Equals Cool

Totally forget to mention this.  Went to The Standard last week for a sort of acoustic music showcase.  Stood outside the performance area drinking wine for most of it, but happened to go inside and watch the last band, The Black Box Revelation, perform.  I'm in love.  This awkwardly/oddly adorable duo from Belgium had me tapping my foot.  It's, like...  blues rock, but with an upbeat edge.

I continued bar hopping down Sunset Blvd (The Den and The Libertine) and ended up at a taco shop on the Westside.  Point is, even after all of those adventures (alcohol), the first thing I did when I got home was look up their work.  Their videos and nonacoustic work are even more excellent than I'd hoped.

Really, though, with song titles like Sleep While Moving and Set Your Head on Fire...  Of course I'd love them.  Also check out Lust or Love.  Who doesn't love a blue beard?

They've performed at SXSW at least the past two years.  Here's hoping they come back to LA before that.

  1. Hey - been following your blog and twitter feed for some time. Thanks for being you - the glorious truth and muddiness of it all.

Just wrote a song about this whole artistic struggle, if you'd like a listen:
